Happy Birthday Nadia!

Once again, I have gone overboard for NADIA! With the huge order my sister put in from me, I needed back up and called my crafty mother-in-law for support. I will say, it was a lot of work ... and for weeks before the party I thought I wasn't going to be able to get it all together! Luckily, my sister is confident in me and knew I would be be able to get the job done.
So, Happy 1st Birthday Nadia ... one day you will see these pictures and realize the masterpiece that was made for you. But for now, just dig your little fingers in and enjoy! :)

M-I-C, K-E-Y, M-O-U-S-E.... Mickey Mouse!!!

Celebrating Sebi's 3rd Birthday in Disney World!!
This was my first character cake, and knowing that I am still a cake rookie, my brother-in-law called me the day I was working on the cake to ask how Splinter (from TMNT) was coming along?? The true test was if honest three year old Sebi knew who the cake was!! And of course, right away he said MICKEY!!! I thought the cake was great and was devastated to see them go at Mickey with a knife and eat him up!!

Happy Mother's Day

I love my mommy!!! Recently getting married and moving out of my mom's house was a little rough in the beginning. I had to learn to clean the bathroom, do the laundry and cook (still working on that though) from one day to the next! I have a new appreciation for mommies and all of the things they do!
Here are the flowers my lucky mom got on Mother's Day... sugar cookies on a stick! I ordered the coffee mug on Snapfish. In the picture is my mom, my sisters and me. Aren't we cute??

Margarita Cupcakes

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!!
Well actually, I made these cupcakes for a Cinco de Mayo themed birthday party on Nueve de Mayo! (Happy birthday Alex!!) When you think of Cinco de Mayo, Margaritas come to mind, so of course, Margarita Cupcakes were for dessert!! Yes, I really made Margaritas and added it to the batter ... of course, enjoying some of the Margaritas myself as I baked and decorated the cakes. It was tons of fun to make, and eat!!

Maruchi's Retirement Party

Cupcake Tower!! The flavor of these cupcakes were melted chocoalte ice cream and the others were melted cookie dough ice cream! YUM!!
The great thing about these cupcakes is you tell me your favorite ice cream, and I create wonderful cup cakes with it!!
What will it be next time???

Peanut Butter Banana Cookies ...

for dogs?!? That's right... I baked these delicious treats for the pups. My mom was off to New York and left me with her Pomeranian for the weekend. Poor thing was so sad to have been left behind. But I knew exactly what it would take to make her feel better. And my adorable Yorkie, Spike, got to enjoy a few of these baked goods as well! Here are a few pictures of the happy dogs!!

Sugary Red Velvet Cupcakes!!

I made these adorable red velvet cupcakes for my Bachelorette Party! (yes, I even bake for my own events) I wish I would've taken a better picture of them, but who knew that I would eventually need pictures of my cakes for a blog?!?
They were a little messy to eat, but deeeelicious!! And that is what's important anyways!

It started with a rum cake…

It was a beautiful day in November at my bridal shower, there I was, just three months away from being a wife! I was so excited to open my gifts and see what new gadgets I would get to play with in our new house! And for some reason, apart from a lot of great stuff, I received a million cookbooks (and I didn’t even remember scanning those onto my registry). I think they were trying to tell me a married woman equals a “top chef”. And of course when I got home that day I thumbed through each and every one of those books will all intentions to be the wife who cooks a full meal every night. But for some reason, the only thing that popped out at me from the mass of recipes was the desert section! I felt so much pressure to cook a meal … successfully. But I am such a picky eater, nothing appealed to me except for the rainbow sprinkle cakes and chocolate chip cookies. I found a recipe for a rum cake and decided to give it a shot for a family event thinking my Hispanic family would appreciate me deviating from the typical chocolate something or the other, and sure enough, it was a hit. Before I knew it everyone was asking for more!

So who is this chick with the cakes? I am Suzy, the wife who can’t cook much, but can bake my hubby the best double chocolate cake he’s ever had! I have been baking cakes, cupcakes, truffles, and brownies for every family event I have been invited to since I started experimenting with these cookbooks and love every minute of it (except for the cleaning up part… living with my mom was so much easier because she took care of that!) But anyways, I have been pressured by friends and family (especially my sisters) to start a cake selling business, so here I go… introducing: Sweets by Suzy! Stay tuned for a menu, pricing and tons of pictures of my work! Hope to make an occasion sweeter for you soon!! :)

Here I am opening those fabulous presents at my bridal shower!
