It started with a rum cake…

It was a beautiful day in November at my bridal shower, there I was, just three months away from being a wife! I was so excited to open my gifts and see what new gadgets I would get to play with in our new house! And for some reason, apart from a lot of great stuff, I received a million cookbooks (and I didn’t even remember scanning those onto my registry). I think they were trying to tell me a married woman equals a “top chef”. And of course when I got home that day I thumbed through each and every one of those books will all intentions to be the wife who cooks a full meal every night. But for some reason, the only thing that popped out at me from the mass of recipes was the desert section! I felt so much pressure to cook a meal … successfully. But I am such a picky eater, nothing appealed to me except for the rainbow sprinkle cakes and chocolate chip cookies. I found a recipe for a rum cake and decided to give it a shot for a family event thinking my Hispanic family would appreciate me deviating from the typical chocolate something or the other, and sure enough, it was a hit. Before I knew it everyone was asking for more!

So who is this chick with the cakes? I am Suzy, the wife who can’t cook much, but can bake my hubby the best double chocolate cake he’s ever had! I have been baking cakes, cupcakes, truffles, and brownies for every family event I have been invited to since I started experimenting with these cookbooks and love every minute of it (except for the cleaning up part… living with my mom was so much easier because she took care of that!) But anyways, I have been pressured by friends and family (especially my sisters) to start a cake selling business, so here I go… introducing: Sweets by Suzy! Stay tuned for a menu, pricing and tons of pictures of my work! Hope to make an occasion sweeter for you soon!! :)

Here I am opening those fabulous presents at my bridal shower!
